Adolf Münzer
Adolf Münzer initially studied at the Munich Academy under Karl Raupp (1837–1918), Otto Seitz (1846–1912) and Paul Höcker (1854–1910). In Paul Höckers’ class, he got to know the painter with whom he later, in 1899, formed the artist group ‚Die Scholle‘. From 1900 to 1902, he lived in Paris, before once again returning to Munich. He later taught at the Academy in Dusseldorf. Alongside his work as an artist, he was also active as an illustrator for the newspaper ‚Jugend‘ as well as designing wall decorations. His painting is closely linked to late French Impressionism: Applying his colors in impasto paint he divided his canvas into separate color fields, within which he further modelled the color. In this way his work stands in opposition to the coloration of Leo Putz. His themes are elegant women and scenes from bohemian life.
