Julius Seyler
Julius Seyler studied at the Munich
Academy as a pupil from Wilhelm of Diez. In 1903 he studied in Holland the paintings from Mauve and the Maris brothers. Since 1910 he painted in Belgium his first shrimpfishermen-paintings. In the same year he married his pupuil Helga Boeckmann. On a trip to Paris in 1912 he was very impressed of the paintings by modern artistis as Cézanne, van Gogh and Gauguin. Specially characterizing was his stay in North America from 1913 to 1921. Seyler lived there at times as farmer in Wisconsin. There he painted many Indian pictures. In 1924 he was appointed professor at the Munich Academy. After having lived at Sylt in the 30ies during the Second World War he stayed in Icking and in Hirschau at the Chiemsee. Then he returned back to Munich, were he died in 1955. The paintings by Julius Seyler are related to Munich Impressionists as Zügel, or the belgian and french patiners of the time (Mauve, Maris, van Gogh, Cézanne). During the second decade of the 20th century he developed a moved and light stroke with sometimes in broad outline tendencies.
