Oskar Mulley
Following a study visit to Munich in 1909, Oskar Mulley studied between 1910 and 1913 at the Academy of Fine Art in Vienna. Mulley's creative period following his studies is characterized by the representation of topographically precise landscapes, rural interiors and still life paintings. From 1918 to 1934 he lived and worked in Kufstein, in what is now Tyrolean Austria, a region that would determine the large part of his life's work. In the paintings that originated in this period, in which he initially sought to process his wartime experiences, he quickly developed into a virtuoso painter of mountain landscapes. In the large format paintings, he masterfully composed the various elements of the alpine world. Somewhat later, he settled in Garmisch-Partenkirchen where he remained until the end of his life. In his active period his application of paint became softer and more fluid. His use of color is precisely coordinated and his primary motifs are landscapes.
