Otto Dill
Otto Dill successfully completed his art education between 1908 and 1913 at the Munich Academy with Heinrich von Zügel. With the outbreak of the First World War he volunteered for the armed forces and from 1916 worked at the Bavarian War Ministry. In 1922 Dill became a member of the Munich Secession. 1924 saw him awarded the title of Professor. He travelled throughout Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. From 1930 he settled in Neustadt and later in Bad Dürkheim. In 1949 Dill became an honorary member of the Academy of Fine Art in Munich. In addition, he was an honorary member of the Society of Friends of Heinrich von Zügel in the town of Wörth am Rhein. Otto Dill belongs to the second tier ( zweiten Garde) of the most important German Impressionists. He is often known as 'Löwen-Dill' (Lion-Dill), owing to the numerous lion motifs that appear in his work.
